18TH CENTURY CARVED OAK COFFER CIRCA 1730.

GOOD QUALITY OAK PLANK COFFER OF SMALL PROPORTIONS. SINGLE PLANK TOP WITH AGE SPLIT AND LATER BUT OLD RESTORATION TO THE UNDERSIDE OF LID. SLIGHT SHAPED SIDES USING THE NATURAL FORM OF THE TREE. COFFER FRONT WITH GOOD PATINA COMPLETE WITH NAIVE CARVED DETAILING.

ORIGINAL LOCK PLATE, BUT WITH EVIDENCE OF IT BEING RE-LOCATED. 1 LATER REPAIR TO BACK LEG. OBVIOUS AGE SPLITS WITH AGE, EVIDENCE OF DEAD/INACTIVE AND TREATED WORM TO THE BACK BOARD, ORIGINAL HINGES.

DESPITE IT’S AGE THE PIECE STILL FUNCTIONS WELL AND IS READY FOR EVERYDAY USE.
