Description

This Swedish elm desk by Carl Bergsten dates to circa 1930 and pairs matched elm veneers with contrasting mahogany and the metal inlaid stringing typical of the designer's work. Standing on four tapering fluted legs, it has been recently re-polished in our workshop, with a narrow strip of incomplete stringing removed from the frieze and minor surface marks remaining.

BEAUTIFUL TABLE BY WELL RESPECTED SWEDISH DESIGNER CARL BERGSTEN (1879-1935)

THIS TABLE IS ABLE TO EXTEND, BUT IS CURRENTLY FIXED CLOSED, THERE IS NO LEAF. THIS LENDS ITSELF PERFECTLY TO BEING USED AS A DESK. MATCHED ELM VENEERS USED ON TOP SURFACE WITH CONTRASTING MAHOGANY, WITH METAL INLAID STRINGING WHICH WAS TYPICAL OF BERGSTEN PIECES OF THIS PERIOD. FURTHER METAL STRINGING TO THE FRIEZE, NARROW STRIP OF STRINGING HAS BEEN REMOVED AS IT WAS INCOMPLETE.

STANDING ON 4 TAPERING LEGS WITH FLUTED DETAIL. RECENTLY RE-POLISHED IN OUR WORKSHOP AND READY FOR EVERYDAY USE.
