Description

This large pair of salt glazed dogs of fo, circa 1950, are hand made ceramic pieces with the slight dimensional differences that indicate they were not mould-formed. Known in English as lion dogs, they traditionally symbolise the guarding of important entrances and buildings, with origins in Buddhism. Glazed in greens, yellows and reds, they show some losses and flaking to the glaze and colour.

WE ARE PUTTING THESE DOWN AS 1950 BUT THEY COULD BE EARLIER.

GLAZED WITH GREENS, YELLOWS AND REDS. THESE ARE A PAIR AND WITH A SLIGHT DIMENSION DIFFERENCE IT INDICATES THAT THEY ARE HAND MADE AND NOT FROM A MOULD.
