Description

A fine pair of Chinese compound cabinets, circa 1840, in the Ming style and finished in their original blackened matt lacquer, now with a lovely craquelure and gentle fading to the natural wood beneath. Each two-section cabinet offers open storage above and a deep burgundy lacquered interior with two fitted drawers below, complete with full moon brass hinges and lock plates retaining their original pins. With expected minor surface marks, partial later replaced backboards and very minor losses to the carving, these increasingly rare pieces retain much of their quiet character.
