Description

This American steamer fitted chest, circa 1915, is covered in plain black rexine with steel strap work, carrying handles and four ball feet. Fitted with Yale & Towne locks and opening to reveal a fully fitted interior with a campaign-style bank of drawers, hangers, straps and a shoe box, it comes with the working lock and two original keys. There are expected surface marks to the woodwork and restoration to a split on the top surface, webbed from the inside too.

WE ARE PLEASED TO OFFER THIS EXAMPLE OF AN AMERICAN MADE STEAMER CHEST, QUITE POSSIBLY MADE FOR THE GENTLEMEN TRAVELLING.

FITTED WITH YALE & TOWNE MFG CO 440 LOCKS, WHICH DATES IT BETWEEN 1915-1926. PLAIN BLACK REXINE COVERED OUTER BODY WITH STEEL STRAP WORK, CARRYING HANDLES AND 4 BALL FEET. WORKING LOCK AND 2 ORIGINAL KEYS, OPENS TO REVEAL A FULLY FITTED INTERIOR. WITH A BANK OF DRAWERS IN THE CAMPAIGN STYLE TO THE RIGHT, HANGERS, STRAPS AND SHOE BOX TO THE LEFT. ALSO APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN FITTED WITH 2 COIN STOPS.

EXPECTED SURFACE MARKS TO WOODWORK, AND RESTORATION TO A SPLIT ON THE TOP SURFACE WHICH HAS BEEN WEBBED FROM THE INSIDE TOO. FINE EXAMPLE OF A PIECE OF TRAVELLING HISTORY.
