Description

This hand painted Swedish marriage chest, circa 1807, is a fine example of Scandinavian folk art. Crafted in pine with a dome top and an overall blue-grey scheme, it is decorated to the front with hand painted florals and swags, together with the date and first owners' names. The substantial lid opens to a further painted interior with the standard fitted candle box, and the piece retains its original bun feet, working lock and two keys. Expected wear to the paintwork and minor restoration to the metal work leave it with a wonderfully honest character.

DOME TOPPED WITH AN OVERALL BASE BLUE/GREY COLOUR SCHEME, BLACK METAL STRAP WORK AND CARRYING HANDLES. BEAUTIFULLY HAND PAINTED TO THE FRONT WITH FLORALS AND SWAGS, DATE AND FIRST OWNERS NAMES. SUBSTANTIAL LID OPENS TO REVEAL AND FURTHER PAINTED INTERIOR WITH DATE AND INITIALS INSIDE A HAND PAINTED WREATH AND THE STANDARD FITTED CANDLE BOX. ALL UNUSUALLY RAISED ON THE ORIGINAL SMALL BUN FEET. REMARKABLY SUPPLIED WITH 2 WORKING KEYS FOR THE ORIGINAL WORKING LOCK.

EXPECTED SURFACE MARKS, NATURAL FADING AND WEAR TO PAINT WORK. MINOR RESTORATION TO METAL WORK TO KEEP SECURE.
