19TH CENTURY SWEDISH PAINTED PINE BLANKET CHEST CIRCA 1850.

GOOD QUALITY HAND PAINTED SCANDINAVIAN CHEST WITH A SLIGHT DOMED TOP.

HAND PAINTED IN A MUTED YELLOW WASH, WHICH ALWAYS THE GRAIN OF THE PINE TO SHOW THROUGH. LATER HAND PAINTED WITH THE NAME ‘BERTHA’ ON THE FRONT. SLIGHT SARCOPHAGUS SHAPE, COMPLETE WITH ORIGINAL BLACKENED STRAP WORK, CARRYING HANDLES AND HINGES. LOCK IS PRESENT, BUT NO KEY. LID OPENS TO REVEAL PLENTY OF STORAGE, WITH THE STANDARD LIDDED CANDLE BOX AND SHALLOW SHELF.

EXPECTED MINOR SURFACE MARKS, AGE SHRINKAGE. EVIDENCE OF DEAD/INACTIVE TREATED WORM, WITH OLD HISTORICAL REPAIR TO AN AREA OF LOSS TO THE BASE BOARDS. STRONG AND STURDY AND READY FOR EVERYDAY USE.
