19TH CENTURY SWEDISH BIRCH SECRETAIRE CHEST OF DRAWERS CIRCA 1870.

STUNNING PIECE OF SWEDISH FURNITURE WHICH HAS JUST BEEN FULLY RESTORED IN OUR WORKSHOP.

MADE IN BIRCH WITH BURR BIRCH FALL AND DRAWER FRONTS. PLAIN TOP SURFACE WHICH SHOWS THE GRAIN OF THE TIMBER. BELOW THE TOP IS THE SECRETAIRE, WITH THE FALL DROPPING DOWN TO FORM A WRITING SURFACE. THE FULLY FITTED INTERIOR WITH CENTRAL STORAGE FLANKED EITHER SIDE BY A BACK OF 3 ELM VENEERED DRAWERS. BELOW THE SECRETAIRE ARE A FURTHER 3 DRAWERS, EACH OPENING ON THE KEY.

ALL THE DRAWERS HAVE A PAINTED INTERIOR OF A DEEP BLUE/GREEN WHICH CONTRASTS WELL WITH THE WOOD. STANDING ON LATER BUN FEET.

MINOR RESTORATIONS TO AGE SPLITS, VERY MINOR EXPECTED SURFACE MARKS. RICH GOLDEN COLOUR AND READY FOR ANY INTERIOR. EVIDENCE OF A BURN MARK JUST UNDER TOP SURFACE, WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN DUE TO SOMEONE LEAVING AN CANDLE TOO CLOSE.
