Description

This Scandinavian painted pine double door cupboard, circa 1870 and in the Gustavian style, offers a shallow depth that suits a hallway or smaller space beautifully. The moulded rectangular top carries a two inch gallery with dentil detailing, above fielded panelled doors with working lock and key opening to two fixed shelves. Later blue paint has faded attractively, wearing through to bare pine in places, and the piece stands on shaped bracket feet.

GOOD EXAMPLE OF A PRACTICAL ANTIQUE PROVIDING MANY USES AROUND THE HOME, BEING SHALLOW IN DEPTH IT LENDS ITSELF PERFECTLY TO BEING USED IN A HALLWAY OR SMALLER SPACES.

RECTANGULAR TOP WITH MOULDED EDGE AND A 2 INCH GALLERY AROUND THE BACK AND SIDES, DETAILED WITH A DENTIL SHAPED DESIGN JUST BELOW THE TOP SURFACE. DOUBLE DOOR CUPBOARD WITH FIELDED PANELLED FRONTS, WORKING LOCK AND KEY, OPENS TO REVEAL A INTERIOR OF 2 FIXED SHELVES. FITTED WITH CARRYING HANDLES TO THE SIDES, ALL STANDING ON 4 SHAPED BRACKET FEET.

LATER PAINT, WHICH HAS SINCE TAKEN ON A FADED APPEARANCE, WEARING THROUGH TO THE BARE PINE IN PLACES, RIGHTHAND DOOR WITH EVIDENCE OF VERY MINOR AGE RELATED WARPING, BUT DOES SHUT AND LOCK AS NORMAL. MINOR SURFACE FADING TO PAINTWORK.
