Description

This fine pair of Swedish Gustavian influenced chests of drawers dates to circa 1880 and is presented in a powder blue painted finish, later applied over the original surface and now faded to a desirable soft patina. Each piece carries canted and stepped moulded edges, fluting to the front, a lattice design to the top drawers and later cast brass urn handles, standing on four short tapered legs. The drawers run true, with only minor surface marks, ready for everyday use.

PRESENTED IN A POWDER BLUE COLOUR SCHEME THIS PAIR OF CHESTS WOULD WORK IN MANY ROOMS AROUND THE HOME, SUCH AS THE LIVING ROOM OR BEDROOM.

CANTED AND STEPPED SHAPED MOULDED EDGE AROUND THE TOP, FURTHER FLUTING TO THE CANTED FRONT EDGES. LATICE DESIGN TO EACH OF THE TOP DRAWERS, WITH 2 FLAT SURFACED DRAWERS BELOW OF EQUAL PROPORTIONS. EACH DRAWER FITTED WITH LATER CAST BRASS HANDLES FEATURING AN URN AND OVAL RINGED HANDLE. EACH RAISED ON 4 SHORT TAPERED LEGS.

LATER APPLIED PAINT OVER THE ORIGINAL SURFACE, WHICH HAS SINCE FADED AND TAKEN ON A DESIRABLE FADED APPEARANCE. MINOR SURFACE MARKS TO WOODWORK, 1 SMALL LOSS TO BOTTOM OF DRAWER EDGE WHICH HAS BEEN PHOTOGRAPHED. DRAWERS RUN CORRECT AND TRUE, READY FOR EVERYDAY USE.
