Description

This traditional Scandinavian box, hand painted in the kurbit manner, dates to circa 1860 and was made in Sweden from pine. Oval in shape with a slightly domed lid, it features black painted strapwork, ring handles to the sides and a carrying handle above, with a working lock and key. Lacquered to a high gloss finish, its interior has been later painted a creamy white, with minor losses to the woodwork and surface scuffs adding honest rustic character.

RUSTIC MADE PIECE FROM SWEDEN THAT WAS USED TO HELP SECURE A PERSON’S POSSESSIONS.

OVAL SHAPED WITH A SLIGHT DOMED LID, DECORATED WITH BLACK PAINTED STRAPWORK, RING HANDLES TO THE SIDES AND A CARRYING HANDLE TO THE TOP. WORKING LOCK AND KEY. HAND PAINTED IN THE TRADITIONAL KURBIT MANNER. THIS BOX HAS BEEN LACQUERED TO A HIGH GLOSS FINISH. INTERIOR HAS BEEN LATER PAINTED A CREAMY WHITE.

MINOR LOSSES TO WOODWORK AND SURFACE SCUFFS.
