This set of 12 traditional hand painted Dala horses brings together examples in various sizes, with some from the beginning of the 20th century and the newest a special edition from 1989. Carved in wood and finished in the typical base red with floral kurbit patterns, they show gentle wear including minor losses, fading to paint and small age splits to a couple of the earlier examples.

HERE WE HAVE A SET OF 12 DALA HORSES IN VARIOUS SIZES, WITH SOME FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE 20TH CENTURY WITH THE NEWEST BEING A SPECIAL EDITION FROM 1989.

THE TRADITION OF PAINTING THESE HORSES BEGUN IN THE DALARNA REGION OF SWEDEN IN THE 17TH CENTURY. TYPICAL BASE RED WITH FLORAL KURBIT PATTERNS, INITIALLY MADE AS A CHILDREN’S TOY THE SOON BECAME PART OF SWEDISH FOLK ART.

SOME VERY MINOR LOSSES TO WOODWORK, FADING/RUBBING TO PAINT. MINOR AGE SPLITS TO A COUPLE OF THE EARLIER EXAMPLES.
