Description

This Swedish chest of drawers, circa 1830, is a fine quality Biedermeier commode in inlaid birch, with stringing and contrasting stained birch detailing. The matched veneer top is edged with burr cross banding, while canted corners carry contrasting stained panels. Three drawers open on the key, the middle drawer's stained half moon shape forming the focal point, and the piece stands on short tapering feet with ebonised tips. There are some minor age splits to the veneer on the top surface, but it remains structurally sound.

MATCHED VENEER TOP SURFACE, WITH STRINGING AND BURR CROSS BANDING TO THE OUTSIDE EDGE. CANTED CORNERS WITH CONTRASTING STAINED BIRCH PANELS. FITTED WITH 3 DRAWERS TO THE FRONT WHICH OPEN ON THE KEY. MIDDLE DRAWER WITH STAINED HALF MOON SHAPE, WHICH BECOMES THE MAIN FOCUS OF THIS PIECE.

STANDING ON SHORT TAPERING FEET WITH EBONISED TIPS.

SOME MINOR AGE SPLITS TO VENEER ON TOP SURFACE, BUT STRUCTURALLY SOUND.
