Description

This Swedish hand painted strong box, circa 1850, is a good quality example of Scandinavian folk art craftsmanship in pine. Traces of original black paintwork survive alongside iron strap work secured with hand made studs, original hinges, carrying handles and lock (without key). The interior is unpainted and partially fitted with a candle box with lift up lid. Showing expected surface marks, bumps, grazes and some rusting to the metalwork, it remains strong and ready for everyday use.

GOOD QUALITY EXAMPLE OF A SCANDINAVIAN STRONG BOX, WHICH OFFERS MANY USE’S AROUND THE HOME TODAY, SUCH AS STORAGE OR BEING USED AS A SIDE TABLE.

TRACES OF ORIGINAL BLACK PAINTWORK, IRON STRAP WORK HELD IN PLACE BY HAND MADE STUDS. ORIGINAL HINGES AND CARRYING HANDLES, ORIGINAL LOCK BUT NO KEY. INTERIOR IS UNPAINTED AND IS PARTIALLY FITTED WITH A CANDLE BOX WITH LIFT UP LID.

EXPECTED SURFACE MARKS, BUMPS AND GRAZES, RUSTING TO METALWORK, BUT STRONG CONDITION AND READY FOR EVERYDAY USE.
