Description

This mid 19th century Swedish dome top coffer, circa 1854, is a charming piece of rustic pine in its original hand painted decoration. Initialed A G L D and dated on the front, it is further adorned with painted leaves over a green and blue base colour. The top opens to a plain interior with a single shelf, and original hinges and metalwork remain. With expected losses to paintwork and wood, age splits and evidence of treated, inactive worm, it remains structurally sound; the lock has been removed but will be supplied with the chest.

BEAUTIFULLY DECORATED COFFER IN IT’S ORIGINAL PAINT. INITIALED ON THE FRONT A G L D AND DATED 1854, FURTHER DECORATED WITH HAND PAINTED LEAVES WITH A GREEN AND BLUE BASE COLOUR. TOP OPENS TO REVEAL A PLAIN INTERIOR FOR STORAGE WITH A SINGLE SHELF.

ORIGINAL HINGES AND METALWORK, LOCK HAS BEEN REMOVED BUT WILL BE SUPPLIED WITH THE CHEST.

EXPECTED LOSSES TO PAINTWORK AND WOOD WORK, WITH AGE SPLITS, BUT STRUCTURALLY SOUND. EVIDENCE OF DEAD INACTIVE TREATED WORM.
