This Baroque Revival dome top chest, crafted in oak circa 1840, was found on our travels around Scandinavia. Ornate metal strap work adorns the sides, enveloping the carrying handles, while the central strap houses a working lock with its original key. Retaining its original colour and patina, with expected age splits and minor surface fading, it remains structurally strong and offers generous storage for the modern home.

ORNATE METAL STRAP WORK APPLIED TO THE SIDES WHICH ENVELOP THE CARRYING HANDLES AND THE CENTRAL STRAP HOUSES THE LOCK AND KEY PLATE. WORKING LOCK AND ORIGINAL KEY. OAK CARCASS WITH ORIGINAL COLOUR AND PATINA, FORMING A SLIGHTLY SARCOPHAGUS SHAPE.

NEARING IT’S 200TH BIRTHDAY THIS PIECE IS STILL A PRACTICAL ANTIQUE, WITH THE INTERIOR OF A TRADITIONAL FITTED CANDLE BOX, THIS BOX OFFERS PLENTY OF STORAGE FOR THE MODERN HOME.

EXPECTED AGE SPLITS TO TIMBER DUE TO AGE SHRINKAGE, MINOR SURFACE FADING. STRUCTURALLY STRONG.
