Description

This high Victorian mantel clock, circa 1870, is a fine quality piece of large proportions in black marble with contrasting veined inlay. The shaped architectural top carries carved cherubs flanking an urn, while the central brass face with Roman numerals is framed by Egyptian style mounts. Fitted with a stamped French Japy Frères 8 day movement, it shows only very minor expected chips and stands on a plinth base.

FINE QUALITY MANTEL CLOCK OF LARGE PROPORTIONS FROM THE PERIOD IN VICTORIAS REIGN WHEN IT WAS IN VOGUE TO COMMEMORATE THE DEATH OF PRICE ALBERT. SHAPED ARCHITECTURAL TOP WITH CARVED CHERUBS EITHER SIDE OF AN URN. CENTRAL BRASS CLOCK FACE WITH ROMAN NUMERALS, FLANKED EITHER SIDE BY EGYPTIAN STYLE MOUNTS. CONTRASTING VEINED MARBLE DECORATION WITH FURTHER CARVED AND PAINTED DECORATION.

FITTED WITH A FRENCH JAPY FRERES 8 DAY MOVEMENT, WHICH IS STAMPED. WE RECOMMEND THIS MOVEMENT IS PROFESSIONALLY SERVICED FOR ACCURATE TIME KEEPING.
