Description

This Flemish carved oak table, circa 1690, is a characterful 17th century piece often known as a rent table. The over-sailing solid oak top has been restored with a let-in piece and colour-matched fill, and is secured to the base with pegs. A single drawer with working lock and key sits above four hand-carved legs on a near floor-level stretcher, with the original painted colour revealed on the base during cleaning. Expected surface marks and shrinkage accompany its age, along with treated worm to the feet, yet it remains strong and sturdy, ready for everyday use.

WE ARE PLEASED TO OFFER THIS 17TH CENTURY TABLE WHICH WAS OFTEN CALLED A RENT TABLE.

OVER-SAILING SOLID OAK TOP WHICH HAS NOW BEEN RESTORED WITH A PIECE LET IN AND AREAS OF COLOUR MATCHED FILL. TOP SECURED TO BASE WITH PEGS. SINGLE DRAWER TO THE FRONT WITH WORKING LOCK AND KEY. RAISED ON 4 HAND CARVED LEGS, SUPPORTED BY A NEAR FLOOR LEVEL STRETCHER.

WHEN CLEANING THIS PIECE BACK WE FOUND THE ORIGINAL COLOUR TO THE PAINTED BASE. EVIDENCE OF METAL SUPPORT RESTORATION TO THE SIDE OF THE TOP WHICH MUST BE 200 YEARS OLD ITSELF.

IDEAL FOR USE IN A PERIOD HOME IN MULTIPLE ROOMS AROUND THE HOME, WOULD ALSO WORK WELL AS A ONE OFF PIECE IN A MODERN INTERIOR.
