Description

This Swedish pine blanket box, hand painted in the folk art tradition and initialed and dated 1816, carries a warm red-brown rag-painted surface with a plain interior. Original metalwork and side carrying handles remain, and the flat top lends itself to use as a coffee or occasional table. Minor shrinkage, surface marks and fading speak to its age, with small losses to the reverse hinges that cause the lid to rock slightly when open, though it still functions for everyday use.

TRADITIONAL RAG PAINTED SWEDISH BOX WHICH IS INITIALED AND DATED 1816. FLAT TOP LID WHICH MAKES IT IDEAL FOR DOUBLING UP AS A COFFEE/OCCASIONAL TABLE.

RED/BROWN MAIN COLOUR SCHEME, WITH A PLAIN INTERIOR. ORIGINAL METALWORK WITH CARRYING HANDLES TO THE SIDE.

MINOR SHRINKAGE BETWEEN WOOD JOINS, SURFACE MARKS AND FADING TO PAINTWORK. LOSSES TO BOTH BOTTOM SECTIONS OF HINGES ON THE REVERSE, WHICH CAUSES THE TOP TO SLIGHTLY ROCK WHEN IT’S OPEN, BUT STILL FUNCTIONS FOR EVERYDAY USE.
