Description

This five piece Louis Philippe I period salon suite, circa 1830, comprises a sofa and four matching armchairs in giltwood with original paintwork and gilding. Carved acanthus leaves, rosettes and beaded detailing adorn the frames, which stand on tapered channelled legs. The original tapestry covering depicts scenes of rural French life and retains vivid colour for age; it has been restored around the outer edges using a traditional method, with some expected threadbare areas, losses and minor surface fading.
