Description

This Swedish shaped strong box, circa 1850, is a charming example of traditional folk art craftsmanship. Made of pine and painted in a vivid green with silver-painted metalwork, it opens to reveal an unpainted interior. The lock is no longer present and there are losses to the metalwork around the base, over-painted in silver onto the woodwork, with expected surface marks and fading — leaving a characterful decorative piece.

AN EXAMPLE OF THE TRADITIONAL SWEDISH SHAPED STRONG BOX WITH DOMED LID. THIS EXAMPLE HAS BEEN PAINTED IN A VIVID GREEN PAINT WITH THE METALWORK PAINTED SILVER, LID OPENS TO REVEAL AN UNPAINTED INTERIOR WHICH IS MUCH EASIER ON THE EYE.

LOCK NO LONGER PRESENT SO A GOOD DECORATION PIECE.

LOSSES TO METALWORK AROUND THE BASE WHICH HAVE BEEN OVER PAINTED IN SILVER ONTO THE WOODWORK TO GIVE THE ILLUSION THAT THEY ARE STILL THERE. EXPECTED SURFACE MARKS AND FADING.
