19TH CENTURY SILVER CLARET JUG BY FREDERICK ELKINGTON CIRCA 1878.
FREDERICK ELKINGTON WAS ONE OF THE FINEST SILVERSMITHS OF THE 19TH CENTURY.
STERLING SILVER AND WEIGHING 17 TROY OUNCES, STAMPED BIRMINGHAM HALLMARKS, 1878 DATE AND MAKER STAMP.
FRIEZE IS APPLIED AND EMBOSSED AND CHASED WITH DOGS OF DIFFERENT BREEDS RATHER THAN THE USUAL ROMAN WARRIOR SCENE. FITTED WITH AN IMPRESSIVE WATER LEAF DECORATED HANDLE WITH A FLOWER MEDALLION ORNAMENTED UPPER TERMINAL.
PRESENTED IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.
