Description

This Victorian carved oak bench, circa 1890, is a characterful piece of Gothic Revival hallway furniture made from earlier elements, with a pegged base supporting timber from an 18th century coffer named and dated 1775. Showing age splits to the seat and back rest, a knot hole and expected surface marks, it carries the honest patina of its history.

VICTORIAN BENCH MADE FROM EARLIER ELEMENTS, NAMED AND DATED 1775. PEGGED BASE SUPPORTS ELEMENTS FROM AN 18TH CENTURY COFFER, THE VICTORIANS WERE WELL KNOWN FOR RE-PURPOSING AND ALTERING PERIOD FURNITURE.
