PAIR OF 18TH CENTURY SILVER SAUCE BOATS BY HESTER BATEMAN CIRCA 1788.
STUNNING PAIR OF GEORGIAN SAUCE BOATS THAT WOULD BE A FINE DISPLAY ON ANY DINING TABLE OR SILVER COLLECTION.
BORN WITH THE MAIDEN NAME NEDEN, HESTER MARRIED INTO THE BATEMAN FAMILY IN 1732, UPON HER HUSBAND’S DEATH IN 1760 SHE CONTINUED THE FAMILY BUSINESS UNTIL HANDING IT OVER TO HER CHILDREN IN 1790. HESTER BATEMAN IS CONSIDERED ONE OF THE FINEST ENGLISH SILVERSMITHS.
EACH HALLMARKED ON THE BASE WITH THE INITIALS OF THE MAKER HB, THE LETTER ‘N’, CROWNED LEOPARDS HEAD, LION PASSANT AND A SLIGHTLY FADED SOVERIGN HEAD DUTY STAMP.
PRESENTED IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.
